IPL 2024 standings following RCB vs. CSK: Chennai Super Kings are eliminated, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru advances to the playoffs

With a thrilling 27-run victory over the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru took over the final IPL 2024 playoff berth in the standings. CSK needed to score at least 200 runs to secure a fourth-place finish after chasing 219 runs. However, CSK could only muster 191/7 in 20 overs despite the heroics of Yash Dayal in the last over.

As it appeared that CSK would win, Dayal gave up a six to start the last over before getting rid of MS Dhoni in the following ball. Dayal then demonstrated his ability to win matches by giving up only one run in the next four deliveries as RCB easily won. At CSK, Rachin Ravindra top-scored with 61 runs off of 37 balls. Dayal returned in the interim with 2/42 statistics.

Initially, RCB scored 218/5 in 20 overs thanks to a half-century from captain Faf du Plessis (54). Virat Kohli, meanwhile, smashed 47 off of 29 balls. In terms of bowling for CSK, Shardul Thakur claimed two wickets.

“What a night,” RCB skipper Du Plessis remarked following the game. It was amazing and such a fun environment to end the season at home with a victory. It was probably the roughest pitch I have ever played on in a Twenty20 match when I batted first. About 140–150 was what Virat and I were discussing after returning from the rain break. It seems logical that the umpires wanted to move the game along because there was a lot of rain on the field. “What a night,” RCB skipper Du Plessis remarked following the game. We attempted to alter the extraordinary method we bowled with the wet ball. This Man of the Match is dedicated to Yash Dayal. He bowled in an incredible manner. He is a very new man, therefore he deserves it. [About what he said to Dayal prior to the final over] On this pitch, pacing off is the greatest option. Enjoy yourself and have faith in your abilities; this is what you practiced for. The yorker returned to pace off after failing to work the first ball, and it was incredibly effective.

It’s incredible that fans came out even when we weren’t winning. We thought it was something we had to get perfect in the changing room. Coming here tonight, everything was set up beautifully—CSK vs. RCB—amazing atmosphere, and as a team, we’ll take a lap of honor to express our gratitude to the public for their support. We’ve played six fantastic games in a row, and we’ve achieved the first IPL goal of making it to the knockout stages. It’s crucial that we enjoy ourselves, but tomorrow we must return to work,” he continued.

With 19 points from 13 games, Kolkata Knight Riders lead the IPL 2024 points standings, followed by Rajasthan Royals (16) in second place. In the meantime, RCB (14) is in fourth place and Sunrisers Hyderabad (15) is in third.

With a lesser net run rate than RCB and Delhi Capitals (14), CSK (14) is in fifth place. Lucknow Super Giants (14) are in sixth and seventh place, respectively. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians (8) are at the bottom of the standings, Punjab Kings (10) are in ninth place, and Gujarat Titans (12) are in eighth place.
